Soberminds Started as Art.
There wasn’t a clothing company in the beginning. There was just me, newly sober, making artwork because I needed somewhere to put what was going on in my head.
I painted, designed, experimented, and called the work Soberminds. I tried turning the art into NFTs. It never really took off. I didn’t have an audience. I was making things and figuring it out as I went.
The artwork became clothing.
Not because I researched a recovery-apparel market and saw a trend. T-shirts gave the artwork somewhere else to live.

Addiction. Alcoholism. Relapse. Starting over. Losing people. Trying to figure out who you are after the life you knew falls apart.
Getting sober was one of the hardest things I’ve done, but it wasn’t a finish line. The real rebuilding was the ordinary mornings, uncomfortable conversations, discipline, and looking honestly at your own bullshit.
That’s the quiet work. Nobody is standing there clapping. You do it anyway.

Most designs don’t start with, “What will sober people buy?” A thought hits first: a sentence, a memory, something that makes more sense now than it did years ago.
For years I kept changing cities, thinking a new place might somehow be a reset button. Looking back, I realized I kept changing cities while carrying the same chaos with me.
CHAOS STREET.

That’s where the design came from. You went through something. Maybe you’re still going through it. But you’re still here.
Be Proud You’re Sober. You’re More Than That.
Some people never get the chance to rebuild. If you made it through and you’re standing on the other side, be proud of it.
But sobriety doesn’t need to become your entire identity. You’re also an artist, a parent, a builder, a friend, a human being. The question Soberminds cares about is: who are you becoming now?

I’m Mark Tuten. I founded Soberminds after getting sober because art gave me somewhere to put things I didn’t always know how to explain.
Today, Soberminds creates sober clothing, recovery apparel, sobriety gifts, Field Guides, and Field Notes around the same idea: survive it, rebuild from it, and be proud you’re still here.
I’ve told myself the same thing from the beginning: even if I never sell a T-shirt, at least I’ll always get to wear my own clothing brand.
